Hi, I'm Harlow McPherson
My photography aims to encapsulate someone, or something’s, energy and personality. Sometimes, I try to tell a story with my photos, letting the audience fill in the blanks based off of what they see. I like to get as close to the ground as I can with my doggy subjects, to make them line up with the horizon line and appear more important. Editing can sometimes take me a while, because I want things to be perfect, but, let's be real, our idea of perfection is always changing!
Currently, I’m pretty into using a small F stop number, having clear and in focus subjects, combined with a level of contrast that compliments the background and colors of the shot. Masks, linear gradients, and the ability to edit out things all add to my art.
Ultimately, when people see my photos, I want them to get a glimpse into the subjects, what kind of personality they might have and what they might be feeling in the photo. If someone can see a new version of themselves, or get a new perspective on their dog, I feel I’ve done my job. I really enjoy when I can use my photography to capture an idea of someone or their animal in a way they’ve never seen or thought of before.
